Closed-cell foam

The closed-cell PUR foam is a modern material for insulating houses as well as other buildings. Its excellent insulating properties allow it to be used as an uncompromising solution. With the best performance characteristics on the market, the closed-cell foam ensures a stable temperature in winter and thermal comfort in the summer heat.

The closed-cell foam – what is it?

The closed-cell rigid polyurethane foam is a product belonging to the Purios group of insulation systems; it consists of two components. The heated components are dispensed under pressure and in specific proportions by a dedicated device. Component A and Component B are sprayed onto the surface, where the foam forms within seconds.

The resulting material is the rigid and hard closed-cell polyurethane foam. It is the only thermal insulation for buildings applied by way of spraying.

Closed-cell foam – properties

The modern material for insulating buildings, the closed-cell PUR foam displays a series of important properties.

  • It is a material with an exceptionally low heat transfer coefficient; therefore it is characterised by excellent properties for stopping temperature transfer. The lambda parameter is 0.022 W/mK.
  • The spray PUR foam adheres effectively to the substrate. As a result, no mounting or attachment system is required.
  • The material filling every free space is actually closed-cell foam. The properties of the foam cause it to swell intensely when mixed. Therefore, it fills every slot, hole or unevenness tightly and completely, while thoroughly tucking in the ducts, beams and all other components. It eliminates the risk of thermal bridges, which causes the heat to escape.
  • The foam forms a uniform structure with a surface free of joints, adhesives or slots. The closed-cell polyurethane foam applied on the house construction site in this manner further prevents the formation of spaces through which air of different temperatures will mix.
  • The high diffusion resistance coefficient µ is 46, indicating that the closed-cell foam provides a barrier for water that is difficult to penetrate. This is further confirmed by the very low water absorption of only 0.29 kg/m2.
  • The Purios closed-cell foam has been awarded an E rating for its reaction to fire. This means that it is a self-extinguishing product. Additionally, the thin layer of scale formed by the flame effectively cuts off the fire, which is extinguished when the oxygen burns out.
  • The Hygiene Certification of the National Institute of Public Health – the National Institute of Hygiene confirms that the closed-cell PUR foam can be used for indoor and outdoor applications in residential buildings, for the sale of foodstuffs, in buildings used for pharmaceutical processes, in hospitals, cold stores, breweries and similar buildings.
  • Polyurethane creates an environment that is friendly to humans and animals, but not conducive to the growth of bacteria, mould and other micro-organisms. Therefore, it is safe for health and, thanks to its resistance to moisture, it is also prevents the growth of mould.
  • The spray method guarantees the shortest application time. An experienced application specialist is capable of insulating up to 200 m2 in a single day (depending on layer thickness).
  • Users of the closed-cell PUR foam appreciate the certificate confirming the stability of its parameters, which we provide after the successful and positive verification of a properly executed spray application with our Purios system. The certificate proves that the foam will retain its volume, insulating properties and reaction to fire class for at least 25 years.

Why the closed-cell foam?

Thanks to its excellent insulating properties, this solution is an uncompromising one. Its modern and constantly improving composition makes its production and processing increasingly environmentally friendly.

The closed-cell foam is used in a wide variety of industries. The high mechanical strength and durability mean that the closed-cell PUR foam is used extensively in farm buildings (poultry sheds, pigsties, barns) and industrial buildings (halls, warehouses), often without any additional structure. This is the best proof of its durability and neutrality for health.

The same foam is used in cold stores, including mobile ones, as well as in many domestic appliances (fridges, freezers, air conditioners).
